Double-subject construction

〜は〜が構文

1. Physical/Mental state expressions

	Noun	Adjective/Verb
Physical state/property	せい　が	高い ひくい
	のど　が	かわく かわいた かわいている
	おなか　が	すく すいた すいている
Mental state/property	あたま　が (あたま = brain)	いい
	肉　が	すきです (meat is favorite: in other words, someone likes meat)

2. TOPICは、SUBJECTが PREDICATE

SUBJECT	PREDICATE
せいが	高いです

　　　　　　　　　(Lit. Height is tall.)

Once you need to specify whom this statement is about, add 〜は.

SUBJECT-TOPIC	PREDICATE
川上さんは	SUBJECT PREDICATE せいが　 高いです

3-5. Degree of "importance of feature"

Where ？ indicates that the following form's adequacy is questionalble, and ＊indicates that it is inadequate.

Note that in many societies "possessing a pencil" is not likely to provide a characterization of a person, whereas "possessing money" as well as "having a child" is more likely to do so.

4. Noun modification use of　Aは Bが C

　　　Aは 　[Bが 　　　C　]　　 ⇒ [Bが　　　　 C] + NOUN
田中さんは、[音楽が　すきです]。 ⇒ [音楽が　すきな] 　人は　田中さんです。
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　noun modifying form
